Who we are, specifically me
Do I really need this? I dunno. But here it is, anyhow. Our website address is: https://www.michaellibling.com. The website is owned and operated solely by Michael Libling for his personal use in publicizing, aggrandizing, and informing visitors of his published writing, personal interests, and related pursuits. He’s not out to trick you, pull the wool over your eyes, or use any info gathered here for nefarious pursuits. The whole purpose of this site is to increase the public profile and awareness of this Libling character and his battered ego.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. And yeah, I’m not entirely sure what any of this means, either.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
If there are any questions regarding this privacy policy, you may contact us (me) using the CONTACT link provided in the menu bar or, if preferred, write to mike@michaellibling.com.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Ana-what-ics?
Who we share your data with
We don’t share it with anyone, other than the data collection tools used for analysis within the confines of this site. To put it simply, I want to know how many visitors I’m getting on the site and what pages and posts interest them most. What happens on michaellibling.com stays on michaellibling.com, unless requested otherwise by me or you.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Yawn
If you haven’t done so to this point, now’s the perfect time. Trust me, it doesn’t get any more interesting.
What rights you have over your data
If you have a subscription or account for this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. The data is neither sent nor shared elsewhere.

Additional information
How we protect your data
Our website is scanned on a regular basis for security breaches, spam attacks, and similar potential vulnerabilities in order to make your visit to our site as safe as possible. Prevention is best when it comes to security, and as a first step, we follow all WordPress Code Standards in the plugins that we build and use.
Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons (mainly Michael Libling) who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.
We implement a variety of security measures when a user enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your personal information.
All transactions are processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers.
What data breach procedures we have in place
Should any event occur where customer data has been lost, stolen, or potentially compromised, our policy is to alert our customers via email no later than 48 hours of our becoming aware of the event. We will also report such incident to any required data protection authority. We will work closely with any visitors affected to determine next steps such as any end-user notifications, needed patches, and how to avoid any similar event in the future.
What third parties we receive data from
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personally Identifiable Information unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or serving our users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release information when it’s release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property or safety. However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses, though Michael Libling feels this happening is highly unlikely and urges you to relax and rest easy.
What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data
We don’t do any of this stuff. Michael Libling barely understands what the heck it means. When personal data is provided, it is used solely to inform the subscriber of new blog posts and publishing news. Above all, if you’ve managed to muddle your way through the drivel above and are actually reading this closing sentence, please let me know so I can personally congratulate you, prior to offering recommendations for a psych evaluation.
